The Marie Lestyle studio
Sewing takes courage. One seam at a time.
How Marie Lestyle began
My first memory of sewing is a sound: my grandmother's sewing machine on Sunday afternoons. I spent hours sorting her buttons and watching her hands guide the fabric. I wasn't sewing yet. I was learning to watch.
As I grew up, I kept that love of clothes, beautiful fabrics and well-made cuts. But I took the sensible path: a business degree, then an office job. Fashion stayed a weekend pleasure, something I admired in shop windows without daring to touch.
The turning point: sewing the jacket I couldn't find anywhere
One winter, I was looking for a very particular jacket. A loose fit, a crisp collar, a capelet. I could picture it, but no shop sold it, and the ones that came close didn't come in my size. So I thought: what if I sewed it myself?
I bought a pattern. It fit on four pages, and the instructions on three lines. The drawings never showed the move I needed. I unpicked, started again, almost gave up. My first jacket was far from perfect. But I wore it with a pride I had never felt walking out of a shop.
That day, I understood one thing: with clear instructions, anyone can sew their own clothes.
Learning to sew my own clothes, step by step
From then on, I never stopped. In the evenings and at weekends, I took pattern-making classes, learned to grade a pattern from one size to another, and studied fabrics: how they drape, how they behave under the iron. I filled sketchbooks and whole boxes of scraps.
I photographed every step of my projects so I would remember them. Then I started sharing them. Very quickly, the same question kept coming up under every photo: where can I find this pattern? It didn't exist. So I made it. That little evening project became Marie Lestyle.

How a Marie Lestyle pattern is made
Every design starts with a sketch, often scribbled in a notebook. Then comes the pattern, graded into every size. I sew the garment, wear it, adjust it. Then I sew it again, photographing every move, to write a guide you can follow without guessing.
Sketch
The drawing, the silhouette, the collar, the pocket, the button.
Draft
The base pattern, then every size from XS to 5XL.

Every step is shown in photos and described in short sentences.
Daring, one seam at a time
Every new project starts with a few nerves. You cut into a beautiful fabric, you make mistakes, you unpick, you start again. Then one morning, you slip on a garment made with your own hands, exactly as you imagined it.
That is the moment I want to give you. My guides are here to give you confidence, to let you try new shapes and fabrics, and to help you find your own style, project after project.
