Help with your PDF sewing pattern
Everything you need to print your pattern, choose your size and start sewing with confidence.
Printing and assembling a PDF pattern
You print your pattern at home, on an ordinary printer. The sheets are designed for both A4 and Letter paper.
Print the test square first
Print just one sheet: the one with the test square. The guide tells you which page it is.
Check your print settings
Actual size, portrait orientation, no auto-centering.
Measure the square
It must measure exactly the size printed on it: 5.08 cm × 5.08 cm (2 inches) for the Cropped Cape Jacket. If it does, print all the sheets.
Assemble the sheets
Each sheet shows its code in large type (A1, A2, B1…). Assemble the rows first, then join the rows together. The layout overview in the guide shows where each piece sits.
Choosing your size
Every pattern runs from XS to 5XL. Each pattern page gives two charts: body measurements and finished garment measurements.
Take your measurements
With a tape measure, take the measurements listed in the pattern's chart, for example bust and neck for the Cropped Cape Jacket.
Compare with the chart
Choose the size that matches your body measurements. You can also choose from the finished garment measurements you want, grading between sizes if needed.
Check before cutting
Measure the printed pieces. You can grade between sizes if needed, and adjust the pattern before cutting your fabric.
Working out your yardage
The pattern page lists the supplies used for the size shown. For any other size, the guide explains how to measure your yardage.
Once the pattern is assembled and cut to your size, lay all the pieces on the floor over an area as wide as your fabric, following the grainline and the "on the fold" pieces. Measure the length they take up: this is the minimum yardage. Buy a little more, as the fabric must be washed before cutting and may shrink.

My test square is the wrong size. What should I do?
